A Mad Hatter Birthday Party

The big day that we had been planning for what seemed like months has come and gone and I must say that it was a huge success!

We chose a Mad Hatter Tea Party theme for Addy's first birthday, which was super fun and super easy. After setting everything up, I realized that the Mad Hatter theme didn't go much farther than the invitations and Addy's outfit but that's OK. After all was said and done, I think it would be better categorized as a "Found It On Pinterest" themed party because everything I did was inspired by, you guessed it, Pinterest.

Our cute little Birthday Girl. The hat only lasted a few seconds, no matter how many times I re-pinned it.

I made her tutu using this tutorial. It was SUPER easy and only took like half an hour. I think Addy might need a few more of these.

Twelve months of our little lady. I love seeing how she changed throughout the year.

Addy's Aunt and Uncle and Sweet friends who came to celebrate Addy's Birthday.

Story time with Sophia's Dad.

Cupcake time!

She didn't love the attention at all.

We didn't get a very good picture of her first bite, but she made the cutest face, almost like the frosting was sour.

The icing was no longer fun when it ended up in her eye. Three days later, I am still finding pink frosting behind her ear and up her nose. Gross!

The biggest disappointed of the party was that I failed to get a photo of the Birthday girl and her Dad, who was the ultimate host, making a point to talk to almost everyone. I also failed to get a pic of her and her Grandparents who spent the entire weekend, doing whatever I asked, shopping, cleaning, cutting out flowers and a million other things.

Otherwise, I think it was a huge success. We are blessed with wonderful friends and family and we loved celebrating Addy's life with them.

Hello Spring!

I have/had a busy day today; running errands, making favors for Addy's party and cleaning but I had to take a second to tell you something, friends.

SPRING IS HERE!!!!!!

I almost hesitate to say anything because I wouldn't want to jinx it, but here's the proof.

Fall is definitely my favorite time of year but Spring is a very close second. For the past four years we've been living in Albuquerque, Matt has told me that there's always one big final storm right before spring, around the end of February, early March, and for the past four years he's been right. Saturday was a super gloomy day in the 505 (It might have made me a little grumpy) and on Sunday we woke up to snow. But on Monday, this is what Addy and I saw on our walk.

Ah! It makes this sun loving-New Mexican girl happy.

Yes, I am the dork on the sidewalk taking pictures of the blooming trees. I can't help it, they make me smile. They also make me sneeze but I'll forgive them for that.

This pic was taken right before I turned the corner and a big scary dog almost jumped the fence and attacked me and my child. I might have screamed and I might have realized where Addy gets her fear of dogs from. I must remember to walk on the other side of the road next time.

Speaking of dogs, I've been using this big guy, his name is Winston, as a baby gate for our craft room/office. Works like a charm, Addy doesn't go near it.

Addy is 1 Year Old!!

Today is Adelyne's very first Birthday!

Her party is next weekend so today, we're taking it easy, eating cupcakes and loving on our little lady.

It seems like over the past week Addy has grown up at double the speed. She's quickly turning into a little person and always seems to be doing something new. We love watching her learn new things.

Our last monthly photo session with Mr. Monkey.

Here are some quick stats on our one year old:

Age: 1 Year
Weight: 16 lb 4 oz
Height: To Mom's Knees

Favorite Food: Crackers and Mum Mums
Favorite Toy: The Pentagon Shaped Puzzle Piece (She carries it everywhere)
Favorite Activity: Reading

Scared of: Dogs (even the stuffed ones)
Dislikes: Being fed
Best Friend: A tie between Mom, Dad and one of her three "loveys"
Words: "Ball"
Silly Tendency: She likes to "pretend" to eat things off the floor but hates to eat her food.

The look of determination

This was the only full length I was able to get to show off her whole outfit.

Getting an exercise pushing the ottoman.

And if you feel like you need a good workout, check out this video. Addy had the giggles last night, watching her Dad make silly faces. I laughed so hard at her laughing that my stomache hurt later on.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SILLY GIRL!!!!!

Three for Thursday

I'll be doing Addy's 12 month post tomorrow so Five for Fridays has moved to Thursday this week.

1. We went on a spontaneous lunch date!
2. You can't stop talking about the evening you and Addy spent snuggling on couch that ended with her falling asleep on you.
3. Tomorrow our little girl will turn a year old. I have loved watching you grow as a father this past year. Addy is a lucky little girl to have a Dad that loves her like you do.

You are a great father and I love you. :)

A Year Ago Today....

In two days my little lady will turn one.

I'm not sure how most Mom's feel two days before the first anniversary of the birth of their child; maybe sentimental? sad? in denial? I don't think I'm either of those. I'm just happy.

A lot of people keep asking me, "Can you believe she is going to be a year old?" And if I were to answer that question honestly, I would say that yes, I think I can. Does that sound weird? I don't know if I am able to really express my feelings on the subject because in some ways the time has flown by and in others it's dragged on.

Maybe planning a party for her birthday and having something to look forward to has helped me come to terms with Addy growing up. I do miss the days when Addy was tiny and so new but I love the stage she is in now, just learning to walk and explore the world in a new way. I've loved every stage and I'm looking forward to the next one.

So the question we've been asking ourselves all week is "What were we doing a year ago?"

A year ago today, we were just a family of two anxiously awaiting the arrival of little "Baby D," also known as Carlos. We had a boy name ready go and 2 good girl names.

A year ago today, we tried the car seat on George. Who would have known that George would become one of Addy's favorites?

A year ago todayish, we took the last of our weekly prego pictures. After several pictures where I looked awful, Matt got frustrated and decided a candid shot was the way to go, when that didn't work, he thought he would show me how to pose. The photos are awful but good for a laugh.

A year ago today, we had no idea that our baby girl would have to spend a week in the NICU or how loved we would will by family  and friends who cleaned our house, sat with us at the hospital, brought us food and sent encouraging words. (I remember every email, note and text. Thank you!!!)

A year ago today we had no idea how much joy this little lady would bring to our lives.
